25¢ fare for cyclists using bus bike racks May 13-19.

In conjunction with National Bike Month, TMACOG and other local partners, TARTA fare is only 25 cents for cyclists using the on-bus bike racks, Sunday, May 13 through Saturday, May 19, 2012.

Wednesday, May 16, Ride of Silence. Start at the University of Toledo, 6:45 p.m. More than 200 cyclists – including children on their first 2-wheelers, couples on tandems, and bike clubs wearing colorful jerseys – are expected to join this 8-mile ride around west Toledo. Police will protect the riders, blocking traffic at intersections and driveways. The goal of this annual ride is to remind drivers to share the road with cyclists who are out in more numbers in the spring and summer. The ride remembers local people who have been injured or killed while riding bikes.

Wednesday, May 16, Public reception for the artist-designed bike racks project. Manhattan’s restaurant, Adams St., downtown Toledo, 5:30 – 7 pm. A series of bike racks have been installed in the Uptown arts and entertainment area. The area is popular with cyclists, especially riders from the Old West End.

Friday, May 18, Bike to Work Day. This is national Bike to Work Day when people are encouraged to leave their cars at home and try riding to work for a day.

Saturday, May 19, Bike Day at the Farmers’ Market in downtown Toledo, 9 a.m. – noon. Ride your bike to the Farmers’ Market and get a free Bike Month T-shirt and a cup of coffee (quantities limited). Maps and other information on area bike paths will be on display.

Saturday, May 19, Bike Rodeo at Larc Lane School, 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. Help children learn to ride safely.

Sunday, May 20, Birds, Blooms, and Bikes at Woodlawn Cemetery, 4 p.m. A 4-mile ride on the winding paths of the cemetery to explore the remarkable flora and fauna of this beautiful spot.

Proposed Service Changes for Summer 2012

Possible changes to routes serving eastern Toledo:
- (a) Interlining of routes 12 Front with 13 Starr and routes 11 Oak with 14 East Broadway to improve frequency, provide broader coverage and connections for travel within the area.
- (b) Service extension to the new Hollywood Casino when it is open for business via route 11/14 weekdays and route 11/12/13/14 evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- (c) Primary use of the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Bridge to downtown for all routes to avoid further route changes due to the up coming Anthony Wayne Bridge construction work.

Route 10 Rossford Call-A-Ride will have scheduled trips to the new the Hollywood Casino when it is open for business.
Make route 28 Indiana service to the new TARPS facility by the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Plaza and Amtrak station a permanent change.

Route 16C Stickney/Central and 16K Stickney/Ketchum/Manhattan Plaza:

Due to the closure of major commercial tenants at Manhattan Plaza, merge the two routes and extend the service to the Kroger plaza on Suder and the Meijer store on Alexis via Benore Road without having to travel downtown to transfer buses. (Experimental)

27N Nebraska/Southwyck Blvd.

In response to service requests, change the southern portion of the route to serve the area on Angola Rd., Wenz Rd. and Airport Hwy. back to Reynolds Rd., heading northbound along the existing route to downtown.

Promenade Station closed indefinitely.

Effective Tuesday, May 1, 2012, Promenade Station—located on Summit Street near Jefferson Avenue—is closed due to construction on the adjoining structure. Therefore TARTA bus service will be suspended for the location until further notice.

Route 31H detoured for Heatherdowns closure.

Due to road work on Heatherdowns between Cass and Reynolds, route 31H buses will use the following detour until open. However, there will be no pickups or drop-offs between Cass and Reynolds on Heatherdowns until road construction is complete.

Outbound 31H: via Heatherdowns to Cass (R), Glendale, (L), Reynolds (L), Heatherdowns (R), to regular route.
Inbound 31H: via Southwyck Blvd. to Reynolds (L), Glendale (R), Cass (R), Heatherdowns (L), to regular route.

Route 2H/M service limited on Monroe between Central and Secor. (Updated April 26)

Due to road construction on Monroe Street, there will be no pickups or drop-offs on TARTA route 2H/M between Central Avenue and Secor Road until work is complete with the exception of an outbound stop a the corner of Vogel (next to Blockbuster) and an inbound stop near the first driveway before Kroger.

Perrysburg’s TARTA service to end September 22, 2012.

Following Ohio Revised Code (ORC 306.55 Withdrawal from regional transit authority.), the TARTA Board of Trustees passed a resolution at their February 2, 2012 monthly meeting to continue bus service to the City of Perrysburg, Ohio for six months should the voters decide to exit the transit authority at the March 6, 2012 election. Following passage of the ballot measure and with the certified election results of March 22, TARTA service for Perrysburg will therefore end September 22, 2012.

Public transportation services affected include regular line and express routes, Call-A-Ride, Park-N-Ride, TARPS (paratransit), Muddy Shuttle, and Walleye Shuttle. Round-trip Muddy Shuttle service from The Country Charm Shoppes and River Place in Perrysburg to Fifth Third Field in downtown Toledo will be provided for the Mud Hens’ 2012 regular season schedule.

Southwyck Blvd. routes detoured for refacing project.

Due to road construction, Southwyck Blvd. will close on Monday April 2, 2012 at 6:00 a.m. in one direction. Traffic will be maintained from McDonalds to Walgreens. Therefore, all buses serving Southwyck Blvd. routes will use the following detour until project completion:

Outbound Routes: 27, 31, 32, & 34: Layover on Cheyenne Blvd. at Southwyck Blvd.
Inbound Routes: 27 & 32: Cheyenne Blvd. to Southwyck Blvd. (L), Reynolds Rd. (L), to regular route.
Inbound Routes 31: Cheyenne Blvd. to Southwyck Blvd. (L), through to Glendale Ave. to regular route.
Inbound Routes 34: Cheyenne Blvd. to Southwyck Blvd. (L), Reynolds Rd. (R), to regular route.

The project is scheduled to last 75 days.

New Waterville Kroger is new home for TARTA Park-N-Ride & Game Shuttles.

Beginning Monday, April 2, 2012, the Kroger grocery store located at 8730 Waterville Swanton Rd. will be the new location for TARTA Park-N-Ride, Muddy Shuttle, and Walleye Shuttle, replacing Waterville Plaza, the former host lot. TARTA route 29X will make stops at the new Kroger location beginning April 2 as well.

Wednesday, April 4, 2012, TARTA will resume its Muddy Shuttle service for the 12 p.m. exhibition game at Fifth Third Field when the Toledo Mud Hens take on the Detroit Tigers. The Mud Hens begin their regular 2012 season on Friday, April 6 at 5 p.m. when they host the Indianapolis Indians.

Waterville is home to an additional Park-N-Ride served by express route 29X at the intersection of South and Second streets.

32H South/Southwyck & 32R UT Health Science Campus/Southwyck -
6:30 a.m. weekday outbound lineup run changed from “R” to “H,” therefore affecting its schedule and routing.
34 Detroit/Byrne/Western – Weekday afternoon run time adjustments: inbound trip from UTHSC begins at 3:05 p.m. instead of 3:10 p.m.; outbound trip from Perry Station leaves at 3:25 p.m. instead of 3:30 p.m.
34H Holland Road/Maumee-Arrowhead – Timetable adjustments.
