Public Meetings: Transportation Services in the Toledo Area

Toledo Area Regional Transit Authority (TARTA) recognizes the coordination of transportation services is essential for older adults, persons with disabilities, individuals and families living below the poverty level, and the general public to access employment, education, health services, and community programs.

Citizens of the Toledo region are therefore invited to provide input and insights at a discussion regarding unmet transportation needs, gaps in transportation services, and recommended strategies to improve transportation and mobility options in and around Toledo.

Effective Thursday, January 12, 2012, Promenade Station—located on Summit Street near Jefferson Avenue—will be open weekdays from 6:30 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. only. Once construction resumes on the adjoining structure, TARTA bus service will be suspended indefinitely.

TARTA routes 20 and 26 are currently on detour due to a closure on Collingwood Blvd. between Delaware and Central avenues. Therefore, the following routing will be in effect until necessary utility repairs are complete:

Outbound route 20: Collingwood, Delaware (L), Detroit (R), Central (L), to regular route.
Outbound route 26: Collingwood, Delaware (L), Detroit (R), Central (R), Collingwood (L), to regular route.
Inbound route 20: Central to Detroit (R), to Delaware (L), to Collingwood (R), to regular route.

Walleye Shuttle service starts Saturday, October 15.

Starting Saturday, October 15, 2011, the TARTA Walleye Shuttle will transport hockey fans round-trip from seven Park-N-Ride locations to downtown Toledo at the Huntington Center for all 2011-2012 Walleye regular season home games. (Toledo Walleye web site here; game schedule here.)

TARTA Walleye Shuttle buses leave one hour prior to scheduled home game times; return trips leave twenty minutes after each hockey game’s conclusion. Fare is one dollar per person each way, payable upon each boarding. A game ticket is not required to ride the Walleye Shuttle.

Free parking is available at seven Toledo-area Park-N-Ride locations:

- Lucas County Recreation Center (north lot)

PERRYSBURG
- River Place Shopping Center (near Walt Churchill’s Market/Charlie’s)

SYLVANIA
- Centennial Terrace

Due to road construction, Erie Street will be closed between Stickney Avenue and Ash Street for approximately three weeks. Therefore, all outbound route 15 buses will use the following detour:

Outbound 15: Via Erie to Bush (R), Huron to Ash (L), Erie (R), to regular route.
Inbound 15: Via Summit to Ash (R), Huron (L), to regular route.

Owens Community College Express service resumes August 15.

On Monday, August 15, 2011, TARTA resumes its service for fall to the Toledo-area Campus of Owens Community College from downtown at Huron near Jackson and at The Source Learning Center. Owens Students ride free just by showing their valid ID.

Service to the Toledo-area Campus of Owens Community College is open to the public for regular TARTA fare or with a current TARTA weekly or monthly pass.

Proposal Underfunds Critical Needs of Public Transportation Systems

Advocates are calling for action.

On July 7, John Mica (R-FL), Chairman of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee introduced an outline for a six-year transportation authorization bill. The bill, which would replace the expiring SAFETEA-LU, would cut transportation funding by more than 30 percent. The American Public Transportation Association is asking its members and advocates to use the letter at this link to let their representatives know this level of spending cuts is unacceptable.
