TARTA’s services include fixed line, Call-A-Ride, Game Shuttle, Park-N-Ride, and TARPS, providing millions of passenger trips annually throughout the Toledo region. Fixed line Bus Operators drive the largest of TARTA’s vehicles and must possess a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL). TARTA’s paratransit service, TARPS, provides nearly 300,000 trips annually throughout the TARTA service area for ADA eligible passengers. TARPS Operators drive smaller vehicles and are not required to possess a Commercial Driver’s License.
ASE Utility Mechanic
($20.81 per hour)
SYNOPSIS OF POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
The Utility Mechanic performs basic maintenance and provides assistance to A, B, and C Mechanics as required. The Utility Mechanic performs all routine bus maintenance, diagnosis and troubleshoots and performs repair in addition to other duties as assigned and required.
The Utility Mechanic must be proficient in all duties of the Night Service employee and Cleaner as the Utility job description includes all the requirements found in those job descriptions (available upon request).
Routine Maintenance –on vehicles, fare boxes, and other Authority property.
Troubleshoot, Diagnose and Repair- Chassis, Electrical, Transmissions/Powertrain, Air Conditioning and Heating units utilizing skill, ability and typical maintenance tools along with sophisticated computer based equipment
- High School graduate or GED
- Knowledge of diesel, powertrain, electrical systems, and preventative maintenance programs
- Possession of a valid Commercial Driver License (Class A) within 90 days of hire
- Automotive Service Excellence Certification T8 Qualification or degree equivalent
- Computer literacy
- A passing score on the TARTA Utility Mechanic Qualification Test
- Forklift license (within 90 days of hire)
TARTA Fixed-line Part-time Coach Operator
Duties to include but not be limited to the operation of the Authority’s motor buses in furtherance of the business of the Authority in a professional manner over prescribed routes in accord with the provisions of the existing labor contract. Operators must know how to respond to all types of emergency situations, must completely understand the vehicle they are operating, be courteous and self-disciplined and develop a code of ethics for good, safe, defensive driving.
High School graduate or equivalent; above average driving and safety record (not in excess of two moving violation points on license); must be able to meet all requirements for professional drivers as mandated by the United States Department of Transportation Highway Safety Division; must achieve a passing grade on pre-employment testing as well as successfully completing post-employment training; must be able to deal effectively with all members of the public; training is provided to candidates, who have successfully passed pre-employment testing, for the required commercial vehicle operators license and appropriate endorsements; must be 21 years of age or older.
TARPS Coach Operator
($10 per hour)

The individual must possess a five-year history of safe driving, a high school diploma, and a background arrest/conviction record that is worthy of the public trust.
Our community members depend on TARPS professionals to provide safe, reliable, and friendly service to ADA eligible passengers. TARPS Operators must accept and deliver the responsibility of providing excellent service in transportation of passengers to medical appointments, places of work, social events, and so much more. All TARTA and TARPS Operators take part in enhancing the lives of those who may not otherwise be able to participate in some activities; therefore, each employee must be able to meet all requirements for professional drivers as mandated by TARTA and the United States Department of Transportation.
